A Rich Learning Environment for Children

Playschool

The Child Centre is one of only two licensed childcare programs in Daajing Giids, (previously - Village of Queen Charlotte) Haida Gwaii, British Columbia.  Located just steps from the ocean it offers a rich nature and play-based learning environment for children 2 to 5 years of age to start out on their journey of life-long learning.

The Child Centre's philosophy is based on the foundational belief that children are unique individuals who develop each at their own pace and learn best through positive modelling, by "doing" through experiential education and of course, through play!  An inspiring program of free-play, meaningful work (cooking, baking, cleaning, sweeping, dish washing, self-care etc.) and a literacy-rich "circle-time" filled with songs, stories and games allow the children to flourish in mind, body and spirit each day.  Our classroom space is meant to feel warm and home-like where all are welcome, children feel safe, cared for and thus best able to learn.

AFTERCARE

Aftercare is not being offered at this time due to staffing shortages. If you wish to run an aftercare program through The Child Centre, please email dgchildcentre@gmail.com..

"Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results." - John Dewey
